Online marketing Business 4 August 2010 – The leading price
comparator Carrentals.co.uk has conducted some research into the price of car
hire in 2010 compared to 2009 and the findings show that the prices have gone
up by 30%.
Countries that were looked at include Madeira and Portugal, USA, Ireland,
UK, Turkey, Croatia, Greece, France, Italy and Spain. The figures were based on
the price of a rental car in August for booking made between March and May in
both years and Portugal car
hire is one of the best value for money.
Cheap car hire can be had in
Greece as the country reports a 7% decrease – the only country that has not
increased its prices. Turkey is the hardest hit at 76% increases while the USA
and Croatia report 48% and 46% increases.
Gareth Robinson is the Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk and he said
the following about the price hikes: “Many of the most popular destinations in
the world have seen the prices for car hire go up and this is mainly down to a
low supply rate due to the global economic crisis that hit many businesses
hard. Replacing cars has been hard for many and expanding has been virtually
non-existent.
France car
hire has gone up by 37% but Spain even more at 40% making the average price
now £33.19 per day. Prices in eth UK went up by 8% but the country remains one
of the most expensive places to hire a car.
Gareth went on to
offer some good advice to those seeking car hire: “Book early to ensure you get
the best choice of vehicles as well as the best prices as our research showed that
bookings made in March compared to May of this year and last year saved people
hundreds of pounds.”
Madeira offers a
good daily rental rate at under £28 per day while Greece is the only place to
claim a decrease in prices.
