More of today's senior citizens are using the ever popular scooters to provide them with an excellent level of mobility and freedom. For many, the power scooter keeps them from either being homebound or having to rely on others to get around.
Having a power scooter to help you get around can make a huge difference in your life. However, in order to take your scooter wherever you wish to go, it quickly becomes obvious that these somewhat heavy scooters need to be lifted into your vehicle - unless you happen to have a physically fit individual with you everywhere you go to fold your scooter up and lift it into your vehicle, you are still stuck at home.
There is a simple solution to this dilemma … a scooter lift. There are several different styles of lifts depending on the type of scooter you have and the limits of your mobility. Some are designed to lift just the weight of your scooter off the ground and store it out the way as you drive or are driven around town. These lifts will require you to be able to move from your scooter to a seat in the vehicle, and these are the least expensive.
You will find that some lifts are designed for use with cars and will actually lift your folded scooter up and into the trunk of your car, where it can be stored securely out of the elements. Again these lifts work well as long as you are able to walk to the seat in your car.
For those who are not quite so able to get on and off of their scooters, there are power scooter lifts that can lift the weight of both the scooter and you up to the level of the floor of your van. These lifts have a platform that you drive onto and then with the flip of a switch you are lifted to floor level where you can drive off of the platform and into your van where your scooter and you can be secured in place for the trip. The power scooter lift is then folded up inside the doors so that they can be closed and you can then go anywhere that you need to go and your scooter will always be there for you.
For those who choose to use their car, you will want an external lift on the outside of your vehicle, or one that swings your scooter into the trunk. If you are planning to use a full size or minivan you will find that there are single and dual post designs that will fold up inside your van. There are lifts that are mounted under your van and hide out of site when they are not being used.
All of these different scooter lifts have their purpose and work well when they are installed in the right vehicle. No matter what type of power scooter lift you decide to have installed, you will find that they will all fold up neatly out of the way so that they take up as little room as possible. Take your time and research the different models available to see which one is going to serve your needs the best.
